Kenya`s Efforts to Mend Somalia Relations

Tensions are on the rise between Kenya and Somalia relations following an abrupt leave notice for Kenyan diplomats. All these wrangles date back to when the Kenyan Ambassador, Mr. Tumbo, was sent back to his country. This was after Somalia made claims that he was meddling in the country`s internal affairs. Later this week, Somalia issued a seven-day notice for the remaining Kenyan diplomats to depart the country. Consequently, Cyrus Oguna is willing to go further to understand the events leading to these disputes. Hence, a committee put together by the retired colonel Cyrus Oguna is already in play to resolve it.

Kenya`s take on Somalia Relations

Oguna addressed the media on Tuesday, affirming that the two countries share a relatable history. He further adds that the diplomatic, Economic ties between the two countries are in jeopardy following the disputes. He further highlights the common enemy the two countries are aiding each other to put an end. This is in light of the aid of the Kenya Defense Forces the country has to Somalia.

Economically, Kenya`s Exports to Somalia add a great deal to its revenue creation. This is in comparison with the Kenyan Imports. Hence, with the threat of severing ties between the states ongoing, the economy is also at stake.

Somalia`s take

Apparently, Somalia`s decision to evict all Kenyan diplomats came after a Somaliland autonomous leader visited Kenya. President Muse Bihi of Somaliland had important discussions about trade relations and efforts to enhance security. The visit stirred up arguments between Somalia and Somaliland on Twitter. This culminated in Somalia`s minister of information, Osman Abukar Dubbe to announce the diplomats’ unexpected departure with a seven-day timeline.

Consequently, all Somalia`s diplomats were recalled to Mogadishu. Somalia accuses Kenya of interfering with their internal matters. Majorly concerning the political stance of the country. The Somalia Foreign Affairs Minister concludes the interference serves as a threat to peace. In fact, he saw it as a hindrance to the region’s stability, security, and development. Moreover, the two countries face an oil-disputed case pending at the International criminal court of justice.

Price to pay

The two countries have been cohabiting well in fostering peace. The two countries have restored peace and worked on accommodating about 2000 refugees in Daadab and Hagadera camps. Cyrus Oguna affirms that the dispute could affect the operation. Moreover, Cyrus claims that matters of diplomacy and International relations require both countries to work in hand.
