Enoch Adejare Adeboye is a popular name that almost every Nigerian can identify with. He is a soft-spoken humble God-fearing Nigerian pastor, ranked among the top influential and highly respected figures Worldwide. Mr. Adeboye serves as the Redeemed Christian Church of God’s primary Pastor, whose headquarters is stationed at the Redemption Camp in Ogun State. He is also the founder and chairman of Christ Redeemers Ministry and Redeemers University, which was established in 2005 at Ede Osun State.

Early life and Educational Background

Mr. Adeboye was born on 2nd March 1942 to both Mr. and Mrs. Adeboye in Ifewara, Osun state. At the time of his birth, his father worked as a peasant farmer, while his mother helped with the chores; life was not comfortable in their household back in the days.

Enoch began his schooling at a tender age, and he spent his early education at Ilesha Grammar School, which was in Osun State. After that, he got an admission into the University of Nigeria Nsukka, where he started studying math. Nevertheless, due to Nigeria’s civil war, his education came to a halt; he could not continue and so dropped out.

Fortunately, when the war came to a halt, he proceeded to the University of Lagos, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in math. Later he decided to further his studies, and it was not long before he attained a master’s degree in hydrodynamics from the University of Lagos. Moreover, he holds a Ph.D. in Applied math, hence serves as a math professor at the University of Lagos.

Mr. Adeboye got married at 25 years old to a beautiful lady, Foluke Adenike, and the two sired four children who have also become great men and women. They are; Adeolu, Bolu, Dare, and Leke, all of whom are pastors.

Before Mr. Adeboye joined the ministry of fellowship, he used to work as a lecture of mathematics for the University of Lagos and Illorin. Since he had a passion for education and enjoyed his work, he aspired to become a Vice-Chancellor. However, he transitioned his course in life when he joined the Redeemed Christian Church of God.

Adeboye’s Journey into Ministry

It was on 27th July 1973 when Mr. Adeboye decided to give his life to Jesus. He had attained membership at the Redeemed Christian Church of God. He began serving in the Church as an interpreter to Pastor Josiah Olufemi Akindayomi, who was only able to preach in the Yoruba language. Four years later, Mr. Adeboye was ordained as a pastor.

In 1987, he became the General Overseer of the Church. This post came after the death of Pastor Josiah. For three years, Mr. Adeboye struggled to manage his pastorly duties while working as a part-time lecturer in Unilorin. However, he decided to quit the job and concentrate fully on the work of ministering.

Since he chose to assume the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, the Almighty has used him in so many ways to promote growth in the Church. First, he has initiated a vast space for worship and boosted God’s word’s widespread popularity through his ministries. He has also purchased a massive piece of land on Lagos Ibadan expressway, where he established a redemption camp, serving as a space for congress ghost service annually.

Pastor Adeboye held his first RCCG Holy Ghost Congress at Lekki in Lagos around 1998. And it was attended by over seven million people. Later in 1999, he permanently changed the venue for the annual congress to the Redemption Camp. Nowadays, the RCCG has many branches all over the world in more than 196 states. Pastor Adeboye aims to establish a Redeemed Church five minutes walking distance in under-developed cities and five-minute driving distance in developed cities.

Meanwhile, it wouldn’t be wrong to crediting Enoch as the mentor to millions and spiritual father to prominent figures all over the World.

Pastor Enoch is among the most charitable being to live on earth. He is both a member of philanthropic organizations and an active participant when it comes to giving. He is known for helping the needy and the country at large. In 2015, he founded His Love Foundation, which aims at meeting the needs of the populations facing food, health, and education crises.

His faith-inspired charitable organization serves millions of people worldwide, regardless of their religion, sex, social or economic backgrounds. The organization collaborates with over 43000 partner centers in various locations all over Nigeria. During the Christmas holidays, RCCG, headed by Pastor Adeboye, always feeds over fifty million people across the globe.

He donated about 200000 hand sanitizers and gloves, 8000 surgical face masks, and one ventilator to the Lagos state government to fight against the covid-19 pandemic. The Primary lesson is one’s background should not be a limitation to their success. While growing up, Adeboye came from a humble background, but he made it in life and became a great role model. Circumstances should not limit one from achieving one purpose in life. Some of the challenges we face are always for just a season.

Secondly, we learn to be the best at what we do. Doing something to the best of our knowledge is a crucial factor in becoming successful. While following through the life of Adeboye, one significant attribute that Adeboye possessed was the spirit of excellence. While in school, he was aiming at the top students, traveling abroad occasionally to represent Nigeria. As a pastor, he ensured the success of the RCCG.

Thirdly, embrace humility at all times. Though he drives the Rolls Royce and owns luxurious apartments, Pastor Adeboye is a perfect example of humility. The attribute is often visible in the way he talks and relates to people. He almost lost his anointing because of pride, and that taught him a lesson, to always be humble. Mr. Adeboye never lets his judgment be clouded by pride or any other vice.

Fourthly, learn to invest in people. The act of investing in others is a sign of appreciation. Most of all, when you invest in people, they will go to any lengths for you. Mr. Adeboye has invested in people so many times, to the point of losing count. Thus, that is one of the reasons he is called the father of many nations.

Lastly, learn to work hard. Pastor Adeboye was a hard worker. Him coming from a poor background motivated him to put in the extra effort. While in school, he strived to excel. Despite the civil war, he did not end his desire to graduate. We see that Pastor Adeboye completes his academics and event graduates with a Ph.D. Attaining such titles is no joke, as they come in handy with working tirelessly.
