South Africa Deploys Military Medics to Virus Hotspot.

Dozens of South Africa’s military medics deployed by the government on Sunday to help control the spread of the virus. Statistics showing that East Cape is the third province with high numbers of Corona positive cases in South Africa. The spread of infection in the region has been relatively high, resulting in high numbers in the country. The deployment was as a result of the country recording 10,800 new cases on a single day. This jump moved the country’s cumulative infections to 187,997 rapidly.

Is the Situation in South Africa Getting Worse?

While most countries are opening their economies and getting back to normal, recovery in South Africa has not been smooth. The recovery cases in most nations continue to increase, and the health standards are improving day by day. Most governments have imposed restrictions to reduce to rate of the infection spreading as the countries reopen. These restrictions, including the use of face masks everywhere and regular washing of hands upon entry and exit of buildings. However, the situation in South Africa has been getting worse since the lifting of the ban and easing restrictions. It gets worse in specific provinces such as the East Cape City of Port Elizabeth.

“The province is not coping. The infections are getting worse and spreading very fast across the province.” Thabo Sello, defense force spokesman, says.

The province has a shortage of personnel; therefore, they are unable to give quality attention to the high numbers coming in daily. East Cape also has limited equipment in medical centers around the area. The province now accounts for more than 18% of the national infections. The province ranks the poorest in the country.

When They Call, We Respond.

Eastern Cape is the third-highest province with a high number of positive Covid -19 cases; they were the first to request military assistant. The teams include nurses, doctors, clinical support staff, and health technicians. The spokesman expressed his concerns about people not taking the virus seriously. Residents are barely abiding by the restrictions given by the medical authorities.

“When the state calls, we have to respond, and we respond promptly,” said Lieutenant General Zola Dabula, the military medical service chief at a ceremony.

The current state of the province expects them to exercise their duties, which entails treating and educating the masses about the virus. The province also has more than 200 Cuban medical professionals who arrived in the country the previous month. Gauteng houses Johannesburg, which is the country’s largest city is the second-highest of the country’s hotspot of the virus. This is followed by Eastern Cape, which comes second with the highest numbers in the state. The Western Cape province, therefore, remains the country’s epicenter.

What does the future hold?

South Africa imposed very strict stay-home rules in the world since March when the first case was tested in the country. The measures were applied to control the spread of the virus. However, the number of positive cases keep rising rapidly every single day by thousands.

The lockdown rules continue to be gradually eased as days go by to help the economy stay afloat. The country, however, puts its faith in the military medics who have been recently deployed in the East Cape Province to help bring the numbers down. The country bids to control the virus and go back entirely to its state of normalcy.
