In response to a similar action taken by the Central African nation last week, the German foreign ministry announced on Tuesday that the Chadian ambassador has been asked to depart the country within 48 hours.

“In response to the arbitrary expulsion of our ambassador from Chad, we contacted Mariam Ali Moussa, the Chadian ambassador in Berlin, and asked her to depart Germany within 48 hours. We regret that this must take place “The agency issued a statement.

On Monday, Gordon Kricke was dismissed as the German ambassador to Chad. The Chadian Ministry of Communications cited “non-respect for diplomatic etiquette” to justify the decision.

Two Chadian government insiders have verified that Kricke was expelled for criticizing postponed elections and a court ruling that allowed interim military commander Mahamat Idriss Deby to run for political office.

The German foreign ministry noted that Ambassador Kricke “executed his duties in N’Djamena with distinction” and advocated for the protection of human rights and the swift transition to a civilian government in Chad.
