The pact
The film, “Kambili” by director Kayode Kasum, is the first expected to be a slate of 8-10 films that the fund will co-finance. The pact lays a foundation for stronger ties between the innovative industries of Africa’s two largest economies and the world’s second-largest film market. Taking into account that the Chinese government has belligerently progressed to improve its soft power across the region.
FilmOne announced the deal in November 2019. It will partner with the two countries on the first co-production “30 Days in China” which is the first installment of the comedy contract. The comedy stars Nigerian actor-comedian Ayo Makun known by his stage name A.Y.

FilmOne’s achievements
This entertainment production company has worked hard to sell its brand not only in Nigeria but also outside the region. With the release of the romantic comedy, “The Wedding Party” in 2016, Nigeria shuttered the box-0ffice records by selling the sequel of the movie to 22 countries. By so doing, FilmOne made the largest release up to date.
And that is not enough, with the yet to be released “30 Days in China”, FilmOne is going to have even greater success.
FilmOne projects
“The world’s appetite for Nigerian content is growing by the day,” said Babatope, FilmOne’s co-founder.
viewers are becoming more accustomed to this content. This is more so on the small screen With the global impact of Netflix and other streaming sites.
The Los Gatos-based streaming giant has around 50 Nigerian titles on its boards with FilmOne being its main supplier of Nigerian content. Netflix also is developing two undisclosed Nigerian series.
FilmOne is currently working on two high-end developments that are considered the most aspiring: “Greenland” and “Darling Biliqis”
Greenland is about a young soccer player who follows a human trafficking route to reach Europe while Darling Biliqis is a romantic drama based on the biblical myth of queen Sheba.
Babatope hopes that both films will have wide universal demand and could hit the festival circuit in 2021. He also believes that they are going to have an “Oscar contender” from them. Well good luck to them and their future ambitions as they strive to spread entertainment content globally.
