Nonetheless, it appears the actor sparked the rumors after calling himself the father of two boys during an interview. According to a representative, Idris has two legitimate children. I.e., an 18-year-old daughter and a six-year-old boy.
Also, in 2015, controversies arose when Idris got cast to play the role of 007. James Bond author Anthony Horowitz remarked that he was too street to play the part. The common sparked mixed reaction from Idris fans who were not happy. Media sites and Idris fans know him for his exceptional acting skills in hit TV shows like Luther and Wire.
The dispute kicked off when Horowitz told the mail that he believed the actor, Adrian Lester was a more suitable character for the role. He said Idris Elba was a bit rough to play the part and stressed that it was not because of his color but of him being too street for Bond. As soon as critics got hold of the news, they condemned the author for using insensitive words. One of the commentators, Writer Ta-Nehisi Coats tweeted that Horowitz could have just stated that he needed James Bond to be white instead of discrediting Idris’s acting skills.
In response to critics, Idris posted a screenshot of Horowitz’s apology on his Instagram page and wrote,
“Always keep smiling. It takes no energy and never hurts, learned from the streets. Horowitz went ahead to explain his actions. He said that they questioned whether Idris Elba would make a good James Bond during an interview. And in his opinion, he thought Adrian Lester would be a better choice. He took back his words and expressed his sincere apologies.”
” I was asked in my interview if Idris Elba would make a good James Bond. In the article, I expressed the opinion that Adrian Lester would be a better choice to my mind, but I’m a writer, not a casting director, so what do I know?”
Regardless of the unending controversies, Idris has risen to become a star and a blessing to the community. At the end of it all, the focus is what matters. Some celebrities have faced worse controversies and have still stood firm. Hence there is no room to despair.
