According to the 2019 Demographic and Health Survey, Sierra Leone has a widespread and mixed HIV epidemic, with a prevalence of 1.7%.
Sex workers created the organization to advocate for the rights of vulnerable women and children in Sierra Leone.
However, nowadays the organization empowers the lives of numerous young women who are vulnerable. The Tricycle or Kekeh Campaign is among these initiatives.
This is part of Pink Power’s activities and campaigns to educate individuals about the hazards of sexually transmitted illnesses and why they should use condoms.
In the event that you are a passenger in one of these kekehs. They provide one package of condoms.”
The organization has trained over 12 female Kekeh riders who promote condom use for safe sex while earning a wage.
“This condom provides protection against HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases.
“Our tricycle tagline is ‘One ride, one condom,'” adds Elizabeth Juana.
The Kekeh riding is not the only occupation the women have.
In addition, they have a facility where students are taught a variety of trades. Pink Power’s National Coordinator is Mohamed Corgay. “In this center, there are a number of activities occurring.
There’s tailoring education. We’re doing hair. In their free time, most girls go to the computer lab to learn how to operate them.
One of Pink Power’s Beneficiaries is Zainab Turay. She says that the organization has trouble getting the training gear it needs.
However, tailoring machines are few. We have three to four tailoring machines and over twelve people. Some sit all day without using the restroom. Pink Power benefited me significantly. I studied tailoring and cosmetics.”
Pink Power collaborates with other organizations to collect statistics on HIV/AIDS in Sierra Leone as part of its initiatives.
