Kenya’s capital, Nairobi, was on Thursday 22 October met with shocking death news of a South Sudan diplomat. Apparently, the diplomat was at the city visiting a bank to make some withdrawal transactions. It was in Kenya Commercial Bank, Moi Avenue advantage center at Kencom that he settled for. And right at the cashier’s point, he complained of feeling unwell and minutes later collapsed. The medical team was quickly informed, and they responded accordingly. The efforts of paramedics proved futile and minutes later to 1 pm, the South Sudan ambassador to Eritrea Michael Nyang was pronounced dead.

As soon as the medics were informed, a team of coronavirus respondents was quick to arrive at the scene wearing the full set of covid protective wears. South Sudan ambassador to Kenya, Chol Ajongo, gave a statement concerning the incident. Chol confirmed the ambassador’s death and assured more details would be released after the family of the deceased was informed. A post mortem was also to be conducted to give more closure on the cause of the sudden death. Although the doctors suspect it to be a heart attack.

Interestingly, the bank admitted that the latter was a regular customer to the bank. His family closely resides in the country. His body was therefore transferred to the Lee funeral home, where it awaits the post mortem procedure. COVID-19 measures were later adhered to the following fumigation to the entrance used by the diplomat. Thereafter, the KCB branch at Kencom, as well as the advantage center, were temporarily closed. The bank encouraged its customers to make use of other available advantage centers. Also, make use of alternative banking options such as the use of ATMs, Cash Deposit machines, Mobi, KCB Mpesa, Vooma, and Internet banking.
