Nigeria Extents Lockdown Due to the Coronavirus Spread

Following the rapid spread of the Coronavirus in Africa countries are willing to extend lockdown policy. Apart from the extension of the lockdown, authorities are coming forth to ensure other measures are followed to the latter. A good example is the Nigeria. At the moment the federal government has extended lockdown because of the increase of new infection cases.

Nigeria has recorded three hundred and forty three confirmed COVID-19 cases. As a result, President Buhari, has ordered citizens to remain indoors. According to the latest news, Buhari gave the order on Monday where he signed a lockdown extension act. The federal government has added two more weeks to fight the spread of the Corona virus.

Nigeria Under Lockdown and determined to fight

As a result of the spread of the Coronavirus, president Buhari signed the Quarantine Act Regulation No. 2 OF 2020. States are to impose the policy as ordered, including the Federal Capital Territory (Abuja), Lagos as well as Ogun states. The capital Lagos and Abuja are the epicenters and that is the reason why the government is more focused on them.

On Monday, Mr Buhari says COVID-19 pandemic fight is a matter of life and death. As of 13th April, Nigeria had recorded 343 confirmed cases with twenty more new cases. The good news is that Ninety one patients are discharged. Only ten citizens have passed away as a result of the infection. Following the COVID-19 pandemic, the president issued the Coronavirus regulations active as at 30th March.

In the full text of the released order, the president declares COVID-19 a dangerous contagious disease. As part of the necessary efforts to curb the spread, Buhari orders restriction of movements. No travelling from state to another especially in Lagos state, Ogun state as well as the Federal Capital Territory. The government is to use the extension to identify, trace and isolate the infected individuals.

Nigeria government advices citizens to hold on to the law

The government together with its leaders is working shoulder -to -shoulder to contain the virus. It has become expedient to lengthen the limitation to enable the government accomplish its goals. Mr Buhari in exercise of the power granted by section 3 and 4 of the lockdown act recommend the extension. For two weeks again, operation at the touched states is to remain still. According to the news, the law is effective as from Tuesday 14TH April, 2020.

The president says these regulations are made further to the Coronavirus law, 2020. He advised all citizens, residents and all government officials to remain compact as everyone has a responsibility. Mr. Buhari also says all exemptions under the COVID-19 act remains extant.

Conclusion

The virus has led many to panic and fear but together we will prevail. In my opinion, the extension of the lockdown policy is an excellent move to contain the virus. For instance, according to survey done, countries like South Africa have seen a significant decrease in new cases.

It seems the lockdown policy, together with social distancing and high levels of hygiene are working perfectly. I call upon the whole of African community to remain tough during this trying time of the Coronavirus.
