King of Morocco Hosts Spain’s Prime Minister in Diplomatic Gathering
Morocco’s King Mohammed VI welcomed Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez on a working visit at the Royal Palace in Rabat. The leaders discussed various topics, including the Western Sahara dispute and joint preparations to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup with Portugal.
Prime Minister Sanchez reiterated Spain’s support for Morocco’s proposed plan for Western Sahara, emphasizing its importance in achieving a realistic and credible resolution to the ongoing territorial conflict. King Mohammed VI expressed gratitude for Spain‘s constructive stance, emphasizing the significance of mutual respect and cooperation.
In addition to diplomatic matters, Prime Minister Sanchez praised Morocco’s strategic initiatives, such as fostering cooperation among Atlantic-bordering African nations and projects like the Atlantic Gas Pipeline.
This visit follows a declaration adopted by Sanchez and the King almost a year ago, signaling a new era of cooperation after years of tension. Before meeting with the King, the Spanish Prime Minister held discussions with Morocco’s Premier Aziz Akhannouch.
During a press conference, Sanchez called for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and reiterated support for the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees. He emphasized the need for a lasting cessation of hostilities, the release of hostages held by Hamas, and ensuring access to humanitarian aid, underlining Spain’s commitment to these objectives.
