MAIDUGURI, Nigeria — Gunmen attacked a church in Eruku, Kwara State, during a service, killing at least two worshippers and abducting the pastor along with several others, authorities said. The assault caused widespread panic as residents and travelers fled into nearby bushes for safety.
The incident comes just days after 25 schoolgirls were kidnapped from a government girls’ school in Kebbi State. In response, Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu postponed a planned trip to the G20 summit in South Africa pending security briefings.
A joint search and rescue operation involving police, military, and local residents is underway to locate the missing students. Police confirmed that the school assault was carried out by armed bandits wielding sophisticated weapons and urged the public to remain calm and support ongoing security efforts.
