Apple will now build its App Store, Apple Music, and other services in markets around Africa. These services would also extend to the Middle East and more geographical expansion of its services. Apple discloses the expansion of its App Store to 20 more countries, eight in Africa, and more streaming Apple Music service in 52 additional countries and regions. This expansion is unique and the largest since iTunes Store was introduced to Russia and India in 2012.

Apple’s focus on growing sales from its services segment has grown exponentially. It totaled 17.8% of its $260.1 billion in revenue in its recent fiscal year. As consumers are slow to upgrade their smartphones, Apple executives in January decided to expand its subscribers. Apple is also wants 600 million subscribers at the end of the year with its 1.5 billion active devices.

Outcomes

The aim at which this is achieved is by expanding its reach to have more subscribers either through third-party or more services. Apple’s biggest revenue generator is its App Store; on its App Store, Apple generates between 15% and 30% of its total sales. The store will expand to Cameroon, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ivory Coast, Libya, Gabon, Rwanda, Morocco, and Zambia.

Apple store will be in Myanmar and Maldives in the Asia-Pacific region, Afghanistan and Iraq, and several nations in the Oceania and Balkans. This store will also be located in 175 countries. Apple’s Music service will be available to 167 markets and Apple’s top streaming rival “Spotify” only operates in 79 countries.

With this, Apple will bring out new terms and pricing for its streaming music markets. For instance, in the United States Apple offers a three-month free trial and charges, individual users, $9.99 a month thereafter. And in its new market, Apple will only give users a six-month trial period. The company changed its monthly prices in Myanmar and the Ivory Coast. Also, the company is reducing its price for as low as $4.99 in markets like Kuwait and Iraq.
