Tanzania Prepares 2020 Re-Election
It takes place in the structure of a unitary presidential democratic republic. The President is the head of state and government. The government exercises its executive powers and the parliament together with the government have legislative powers. The CCM or Revolutionary State Party rules the party sector.
General Elections In Tanzania
According to the Constitution in Tanzania, a President should rule at least 5 years per term. Plurality voting elects the head of state. The electoral system chooses the person who gets the most votes. A candidate should be a citizen of TZ by birth, above 35 years, member of a political party which nominates them and a qualified MP. During this year, authorities will conduct a general election in October to elect a head of state and a National Assembly.
CCM Supports Magufuli’s Application
Chama Cha Mapinduzi is Tanzania’s ruling political party. It has backed the application of Pombe Magufuli, CCM chairman, for the coming elections. The endorsement was in Dodoma yesterday. Samia Suluhu is Magufuli’s running mate. Pombe re-affirmed that he will not run for a 3rd term, an idea that Ally Hassan had brought up. Mwinyi praised the President telling him to consider for another term.
Last year, Magufuli still was not for the idea for ruling again after 2025, if he wins 2020’s general elections. He says that everyone in Tanzania can control the affairs of the state.
Magufuli says:
‘‘I have been insisting that I will respect the constitution and laws governing the country after completing my term in office.”
Achievements of Magufuli
John Magufuli attained some goals for his country after coming to power in 2015. The president has restored discipline among civil servants that have caused improvements in the speed of delivering public services. Magufuli has ensured proper control of public expenditure in the country. Moreover, his government unearthed workers with fake qualifications, removing them from the government offices, and saving millions of USD.
There is an established anti-corruption court that fires any public official involved in graft cases. There is free education in the country, protected natural resources, water projects, and reduced foreign aid to the country. Magufuli did not stop there, he went ahead and reduced the cost of foreign trips for the officials.
The head of state promised to complete the project of having a standard railway gauge using internal money. The government also increased loans for students in higher education.
The Ruling Party Selects Candidate For Zanzibar Presidency
The CCM supported Hussein Mwinyi, son of the former head of state, as the party’s leader for the Unguja presidency in the elections.

Congress passed its plan which the party would ensure they implement if Magufuli wins the October 2020 elections. Some of the plans are ensuring equality and justice for all citizens and proper governance to maintain unity.
President John Magufuli seems to win the coming polls looking at his 1st term’s achievements. Popular artists such as Rayvanny and Diamond Platnumz have praised the name of Magufuli in their current songs.
