Stanley Amandi, a Nollywood filmmaker and actor, has been arrested alongside several military officers accused of plotting to violently overthrow the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
According to a report by Premium Times, Amandi — a director and former chairman of the Actors Guild of Nigeria in Enugu State — was arrested in September 2025.
Sources said the actor was allegedly recruited to act as a propagandist for the suspected coup plotters, who were reportedly planning the assassination of senior government officials. Government officials briefed on the matter last year said the officers involved had mapped out a violent takeover in which President Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas were among those targeted.
On Monday, the Defence Headquarters confirmed the existence of a plot to illegally remove the Tinubu administration, adding that the officers implicated would be brought before military judicial panels.
In a statement, the Defence Headquarters said investigations into the alleged plot had been concluded and forwarded to the “appropriate superior authority in line with extant regulations.” The military described the probe as “comprehensive,” noting that it examined “all circumstances surrounding the conduct of the affected personnel.”
It said the findings pointed to “a number of officers with allegations of plotting to overthrow the government,” actions it described as “inconsistent with the ethics, values and professional standards required of members of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.”
Amandi has appeared in several Nollywood productions and is known for his work as an actor, director and production manager. His credits include The Album (director), Tiger King (director and producer, 2008), Cornerstone (2019), and Once Upon a Dream (2024), in which he featured as an actor. His last post on Instagram was dated September 19, 2025, just days before his reported arrest.
