NAF’s Counter-Terrorism Success: Multiple Strikes Hit Borno, Niger

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has reported successful airstrikes conducted by the Air Components of Operations Hadin Kai and Whirl Punch in the North East and North Central regions, resulting in the neutralization of several terrorists in Borno and Niger states.

AVM Edward Gabkwet, the Director of Public Relations and Information for NAF released a statement in Abuja detailing the outcomes of these operations. According to Gabkwet, the air components have consistently targeted terrorist elements, disrupting their activities and degrading their capabilities to threaten both military personnel and civilians.

In the North East, airstrikes were authorized and executed on May 3 over Chinene, a location nestled within the Mandara mountain range. Intelligence indicated terrorist gatherings in the area, with seven gun trucks observed parked under trees. NAF aircraft swiftly engaged the assembly area and destroyed the terrorists’ weaponry and mobility, resulting in the successful neutralization of several terrorists and the destruction of logistics.

Similarly, on the same day, the air component of Operation Whirl Punch conducted preemptive airstrikes over Allawa village near Shiroro town in Niger state. This mission was prompted by credible intelligence revealing the presence of terrorists in the village following the mass exodus of locals due to safety concerns. The terrorists had previously attacked and torched the Central Primary School in Allawa village. NAF aircraft effectively engaged the terrorists, preventing further occupation of the area and pursuing them from the location.

Additionally, the NAF targeted illegal refining sites north of Arugbana and Temakiri in the Niger Delta region. By destroying these sites, the NAF minimized the capabilities of oil thieves to sabotage oil pipelines, thereby safeguarding critical infrastructure and reducing environmental damage caused by illicit oil activities.

These coordinated airstrikes demonstrate NAF’s commitment to combating terrorism and criminal activities across various regions of Nigeria. Through proactive measures and strategic operations, the NAF continues to contribute significantly to national security efforts, ensuring the safety and well-being of Nigerian citizens.
