[post_slider]

For several years, residents in Sudan have been facing escalating problems. Food insecurity, terror attacks, ethnic conflicts are just but part of the problems they have been enduring. Amid the attacks, some people have fled the country while others succumbed. The political crisis in Sudan is among the major contributions to the deteriorated economy. Demonstrations all began with political differences among the leaders in the country.

In Sudan, ethnic differences are the basis of politics. Therefore, the citizens started fighting amongst themselves. To date, the country has not recovered. It is still fighting to sustain its citizens. It is quite unfortunate the country is rich in oil yet economically it’s plunging. However, the incumbent President promised to improve the situation in the country. He is even working towards renewing their relationship with the US as Sudan needs supplies.

Demonstrations

On Wednesday, Sudan nationalities took to the streets of Khartoum and Omdurman complaining of the worsening situation in the country. They demanded justice for the people who succumbed during the coup that led to Bashir’s downfall.

The protests turned sour when police started shooting at the scores of people who had gathered demonstrating. One person died while several others sustained injuries. Witnesses reported that police threw teargas at the groups to disperse them.

Cry for Justice

During the protests, the people expressed their outrage seeking justice for their loved ones who died at the time of the coup. One demonstrator said that there has not been any sentencing for the martyrs.

The people hailed that they demanded peace, freedom, and justice. For many years Sudan has been under the rule of an authoritative leader Bashir. During Bashir’s time in power, Sudan became a hunger and war-stricken country. The former leader left the country in destruction as such, to stabilize, the current government needs to put in the effort.

“We demanded freedom, peace, and justice, and neither achieve peace, neither freedom nor justice.”

Will Sudan’s Economy Recover?

For years, Sudan has been struggling with inflation, shortage of supplies, and violence under civilian-military administration. Inflation and the shortage of hard currency have made it difficult for people to access basic needs. Long ques in grocery stores in the norm. Sometimes after making the long queue some even fail to get the supplies. It quite hard especially as the corona pandemic is also surging in the country.

Authorities in the country have vowed to build and improve the economy. They have urged people to stay patient and hopeful. Also, they have promised to deliver justice to the people who lost their loved ones and homes during the coup.

According to doctors who were linked to the anti-Bashir movement, up to 250 people succumbed.

In an attempt to end the economic distress in the country, the transitional government is trying to end the country’s isolation. On Monday, the President of the US announced that he was ready to lift Sudan from the list of terrorism sponsor countries. The people were belated as this was a great step to the recovery of their economy.
