The virus is a dangerous virus that affects the gut and respiratory systems of animals and human beings. It is associated with common cold and pneumonia. The first coronavirus to be identified was in 1937 on the birds but later in 1960, the human coronaviruses came to existence.

There are 7 types of human coronaviruses identified by doctors. Some of them are HKU1(beta coronavirus), OC43(beta coronavirus), NL63(alpha coronavirus) and 229E (alpha coronavirus). In 2019 a new type of coronavirus known as SARS-CoV-2 was identified. The very recent one is called novel coronavirus(nCoV).

The Novel Coronavirus And Disinfectants That Might Be Used To Control It

This has been the trending new type of human coronavirus identified by medical researchers. It is said that it can be treated using household disinfectants such as Lysol wipes and Clorox. These disinfectants are said to treat most of the bacteria and viruses in our environment.

Lysol is a brand name distributed by the Reckitt Benckiser company which has lines on liquid solutions for different surfaces among others. As much as the two brands have been emphasized as a solution to this new novel coronavirus, scientifically it has not been proven yet.

In America, the risk of novel coronavirus is low due to strategical ways of containing it. However, the spread is assured to happen around the country from person to person.

“It’s not so much a question of if this will happen anymore, but rather more a question of exactly when this will happen and how many people in this country will have a severe illness,” says Dr. Nancy Messonnier.

Dr. Amesh Adalja, a senior scholar at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security, has a positive view concerning the disinfectants. He says that this new coronavirus can still be controlled by using the Lysol and Clorox products since they have proved to treat the previous human coronaviruses.

Doctor Amesh also mentions viruses that are enveloped and those which are unenveloped. According to research, enveloped viruses, such as coronavirus is easy to be handled than the unenveloped which seems to be resistant to its host environment.

The enveloped virus is easier to control since the cell from which the virus buds, dies and sheds small viral substances for a longer time. The lipid two-layer of these viruses is delicate to being dried out. Hence these viruses are simple to control than those which have an unenveloped membrane.

Enveloped viruses can change in a short time to confuse and avoid the immune system. Therefore it can cause infections which take a long time before they are treated.

Saskia Popescu, a consultant for Clorox, says that Americans should be fearless about catching the novel coronavirus in the country.

She advises that people should just follow the normal measures. If they were trying to avoid flu which they may get infected with when it is extremely cold. These practices include covering your mouth while coughing, washing hands with warm water and a disinfectant.
