Wuhan is no doubt the origin of coronavirus. This Chinese city was the first destination to report the novel virus before it became a pandemic. It was in late December last year but one when the virus first emerged in the region. At first, no one was aware the virus could easily transmit from human to human. Therefore, upon conducting severe laboratory research, they discovered that the virus was highly contagious and transmittable through persons. However, by the time the health officials made the discovery, they had already interacted with the man who had first contracted the virus. Therefore, they also acquired it.
COVID-19 Outbreak
By the time it was January 2020, there was a coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan. As the virus was spreading at an alarming rate, the city went into unprecedented lockdown. At that time, i.e. 23rd January, 17 people had died from the virus while 400 were infected. The streets of the city of up to 11 million people had become desolated and silent. Its inhabitants were cut entirely away from the rest of China and the world at large.
At the onset of February, the government of China ordered the testing and quarantine. The patients with deteriorated conditions were kept in self-isolation. All public gatherings and social contacts were no one in the town.
Slow Return to Normalcy
By March, the situation in Wuhan started improving. However, it was unfortunate for some countries had already begun reporting COVID-19 cases. Lockdown measures in the city began to ease. At least one family member could leave their home for approximately two hours to purchase basic needs. Shopping malls began to reopen, and public transports started operating. The city was slowly returning to normalcy.
Meanwhile, people adapted to wearing face masks, sanitizing, and social distancing while heading out. Meanwhile, the rest of the world started reporting high numbers of coronavirus patients. Countries like the United States of America and Italy were now leading to infections and COVID-19 deaths.
On the 7th of April, Wuhan lifted the lockdown. For a while, it seemed like Wuhan had returned to normalcy. Schools reopened, business and public transports resumed fully. Those who had postponed their wedding plans hurried to get married. The inhabitants of the city were once more enthusiastic, considering they had overcome a tremendous wave.
However, on 12th May, the city confirmed six nee coronavirus cases. The city decided to test its 11 million population. And it was not long before they had the virus under control. By June, markets started to functions, stalls in the streets were reopened. And it was not long before everything returned to the way they were once. It was later in July when most parts of China became so live, and things went utterly normal.
Cinemas, parks, museums, libraries were all functioning. Larger gatherings could now happen without being convicted. The streets had become once noisier. Today, it appears that life in Wuhan has returned to normal and happiness.
