Zimbabwe Vice President steps Down Amid Sexual Allegations

[post_slider]

Zimbabwe Vice President Kembo Mohadi called quits to his Deputy Presidential seat after allegedly engaging in improper sexual conduct. The news which he blatantly dismissed left his name tarnished as many started questioning his morals. Local media reports from diverse parts of the state seemed to make rounds over the past weeks spreading reports that Mr. Mohadi had improper sexual liaisons with married women, including his subordinates.

In February this year, when alleged audio recordings of Mr. Kembo invited married and single women to his office asking for sexual favors leaked. The ex-Vice President refuted the audio, claiming he was a victim of political machinations and voice cloning. He even referred to a past ordeal where he survived an assassination attempt.

The failed assassination transpired three years ago, around 23rd June, during a campaign rally at Bulawayo. Mr. Kembo survived a bombing, which was possibly meant to kill and disrupt their political gathering.

The Unprecedented Move

Many were apparelled when Mr. Kembo resigned from his Presidential seat. His decision is one of the rarest moves ever made by a public official in Zimbabwe. To clear his name, Mr. Kembo stated that his decision resulted from self-searching and deep thoughts. He condemned those who accused him of sexual misconduct, saying that the accusations are a political plot against him.

Kembo made it clear that him stepping down was not an act of cowardice but a calm and relaxed way of dealing with his problems. Plus, by so doing, it was a demonstration of great respect to the office of the President. Of course, with the rumors renting the air, commentators might start questioning President Mnangagwa’s regime.

“I have been going through a soul-searching pilgrimage and realized that I need the space to deal with my problem outside the governance chair,” he said in a statement released by the Ministry of Information.

Amid the unending propaganda, Mr. Kembo promised to seek legal recourse against those who continued to tarnish his name. Meanwhile, some Zimbabweans were quick to applaud the local publication Zimlive and its editor, Mduduzi, to expose the VP’s Shenanigans. Simultaneously, some praised Mohadi for stepping down while others celebrated his fall and speculated on his possible replacement.

Who is Mr. Mohadi?

Mr. Kembo Mohadi is a Zimbabwean politician and former Vice President who served from 28th December 2017 to 1st March 2021. In 2017, he served as a Minister of Defense, Security, and War for a short period. Before becoming the VP, he was the Minister of State for National Security in the President’s Office.

Mr. Kembo got the VP seat after the ZANU-PF political party and sworn appointed him as the second vice President for Zimbabwe. ZANU-PF is currently the ruling party in Zimbabwe, with Mnangagwa as its flag bearer. Mr. Kembo’s resignation was quite unfortunate, considering he had not completed his time in office. Hopefully, all will go well, and the truth is unveiled for both Kambi supporters and the state at large.
