With Covid -19 taking a toll all over the world. Virologists and various specialists in viruses have since turned their laboratories into homes. As a result, different centers all over the world have since expressed how futile their efforts have continued to yield. Hearing such devastating outcomes from the very people we are all currently depending causes a lot of despair and loss of hope. Most of these scientists have transformed their labs into mini homes. A lot of their time is spent in these rooms trying to find a cure that will heal the human race and bring back smiles to people. Surprisingly, Ghana’s efforts seem to provide a ray of hope to its citizens and other human beings across the globe. So far there are no legit covid-19 drugs approved by WHO.
Contributions of Noguchi research in developing covid-19 drugs
In the year 1979, a research institution was established in the country by a Japanese scientist, Hideyo Noguchi. The center has grown to become one of the leading institutions for testing scientific work and conducting medical research and epidemics including the most recent coronavirus.
The Noguchi memorial institute for medical research of the University of Ghana ascertains to possess quality standards to help in the research process. In fact, they are able to meet the standards as those of the USA. This has greatly been facilitating the scientists in their research. Interestingly, they are weeks away from developing medicine for this disease.
The massive progress at work
The institute is working tirelessly and looking forward to having a vaccine as confirmed by professor Anang. The scientists are still analyzing the collected data in efforts to try and understand the anatomy behind the virus first. Afterward, a cure will be easier to formulate hence healing the country and the world at large.
Through genome sequencing, scientists are able to make use of the data in identifying the correct drug for the disease. All areas are being carefully scrutinized. From using herbal medicines to even traditional medicines. Even how the disease has spread across the country. All this information is key to discovering this cure.
The remaining bit is on the pre-clinical studies which are set to commence in a few weeks’ time. However, with everything being set and hopefully all goes according to the expectations, the drugs should be up and running in eight weeks’ time. Nonetheless, the drug will first of all go through some legal process as all other drugs do. And pass the foods and drugs authority regulations. After being identified by the authorities, the drug will be ready for human consumption.
Governments support
The government has been at the forefront in offering support to the experts. The government finances the professionals in the team. And all the developments towards finding the vaccine. In the meantime, with the disease continuing to spread and infections reaching 2000, the government is also doing all it can to contain the extent. Various measures have been put in place just like what other countries all over the world are doing to combat a further blow out of the virus.
Last words
With Ghana taking the front line in developing covid-19 drugs, many other works are going on across the world. And in the times to come, a vaccine will come to save the world from this pandemic. But until then, keep up with the health guidelines and restriction measures to stop the spread of the virus. STAY HOME!
