Coast guards recovered the corpses of at least 70 migrants who died in the waters near Tunisia, officials said on Monday. Morgues around the nation are at capacity, and officials are working hard to stop the influx of newcomers.

According to Faouzi Masmoudi, a court official in the coastal city of Sfax, two additional vessels went down on Monday.

Morgues in Sfax hospitals are under significant pressure due to the enormous number of migrants’ corpses. Masmoudi referred to it as “a threat to public health.”

According to him, at least 70 African migrants’ bodies have been discovered in the Mediterranean since Friday, an increase over the coastguard’s prior estimate of 31.

According to him, at least 47 people had to be rescued from the sea on Monday when their boats overturned.

Tunisia has been a significant transit point for migrants fleeing Africa and the Middle East on their journey to Europe since Libya’s unrest.

The Tunisian National Guard reported stopping or rescuing over 14,000 migrants in the first three months of this year, the great majority of whom were from Sub-Saharan Africa.
