Six Kenyan lions killed in conservation setback

Six lions were killed in a national park in southern Kenya, which is terrible news for conservation efforts and the tourism industry.

According to the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), the lions were killed after attacking goats and a dog near the villages that surround Amboseli National Park.

KWS noted on Saturday that “unfortunately, this is not an isolated incident,” as four other lions were also killed in the previous week.

However, KWS did not disclose what was agreed upon when business executives met with residents to address the animal-human confrontations.

Residents living near Kenya’s nature reserves often express their displeasure that lions and other predators kill their livestock and domestic animals as a result of increasing competition for resources between humans and wildlife.

Elephants, cheetahs, buffaloes, and giraffes are just a few of the prized animals that can be found in the 39,206-hectare Amboseli National Park.
