Shoprite Nigeria Warns Against Internet Scam

The Management of the famous Nigeria supermarket, Shoprite has warned the Nigeria citizen to ignore a fraudulent message currently trending and going viral on all social media claiming that the supermarket chain is celebrating its 15th anniversary with unique purchase competition and rewards.

The Supermarket who gave the warning through its Twitter handle this morning said that Shoprite had not advertised any anniversary and the company don’t request anything from its customer to shop in the supermarket, as against the false information being carried out on social media by fraudulent people to scam the customer. The message is predominantly being distributed via Whatsapp claiming that Shoprite Nigeria customers can win a free shopping.

Shoprite stated further on Twitter that the supermarket carries out all its activities in its physical outlets not online and any information concerning the supermarket will be announced to the public through mainstream media, not on Whatsapp or any other social media platform. Anyone who receives the message is advised to ignore and report such message as spam to the respective social media platforms because Shoprite is not associated with “winng.customerreward.com” as the message claims.

Shoprite is the largest food retailers in Africa that operate in 2,689 outlets in 15 different countries across Africa, and the company headquarters are located in South Africa.
