Ahead of surging COVID-19 cases, countries are implementing vaccine campaigns. Seychelles, an island in the southern part of Africa, is the first state to kick off the vaccination procedure. Its health Minister, Peggy Vidot, made the announcement, which perplexed many as they did not expect it to be so soon. Nonetheless, the news has restored hope among people following the tremendous impacts of the pandemic.
According to the Minister, the vaccination process would begin on Sunday, with the leaders at the forefront. The leaders being part of the campaign symbolized how much they cared about curbing the virus. Wavel Ramkalawan, the President of Seychelles, was among the first people to be immunized amid the exercise.
The COVID-19 Vaccine Campaigns
The vaccine which the health officials were administering on Sunday came from China. Reports reveal that the Public laboratory Sinopharm and the China National Biotec Group developed the vaccine. The United Arab Emirates had donated about 50000 doses of vaccine for the first round of the process.
As of now, COVID-19 reports have confirmed that about 420 people in the country have tested positive. This is inclusive of the death reports. It is not surprising the numbers of Coronavirus victims keep increasing daily. As the figure continues to rise, Seychelles recently recorded 20 new coronavirus cases. Meanwhile, the country continues reinforcing COVID-19 restrictions with the hope to contain its spread.
Since the state leaders have already undergone the immunization process, the next in line are all health officials. I.e., all the doctors and nurses, irrespective of their ranks. All the medical personnel would have received their injection, and people aged 65 and above will follow. This is because, just like the health officials, the elderly are highly susceptible to the virus. When the virus first emerged, most old generations died—as such, protecting them as new variations of Coronavirus arise.
After immunizing the elderly, the health officials will then deal with the remaining population. Health officials have set a target of vaccinating up to 1000 people daily. And they are anticipating a tremendous turnout. In case the vaccine becomes effective, it will be great news for the whole world at large.
Importance of the COVID-19 Vaccine
Some countries are also taking part in the vaccination process. What is the significance of the vaccine? It is the only means to stop the spread of COVID-19, especially as a vast majority of individuals are contracting it. How do vaccines protect the body? They protect the body by teaching it how to fight infections. And by doing so, it stops people from contracting viruses and illnesses. Despite the current treatment procedures on Coronavirus, having a vaccine is a better exit strategy. If all hospitals could have access to the vaccines, then Coronavirus would no longer be an outbreak.
Moderna, which is also called RNA, is a recent type of vaccine. It uses a tiny fragment of the virus genetic code. The United Kingdom has pre-ordered 17 million doses of the vaccine, hoping to receive come spring. These vaccines might be of great help in the UK amid the new Coronavirus infections.
