Ogun Road Incident: Two Lives Lost, 13 Injured in Collision
The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has reported a tragic road accident on the Ijebu-Ode-Ore expressway, resulting in the loss of two lives and injuries to 13 others. Florence Okpe, the spokesperson of the FRSC in Ogun State, provided details of the incident, highlighting the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Okpe said the fatal accident occurred around 12:10 hrs on the Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode section of the expressway, specifically after the J3 junction. The collision involved two vehicles: a Toyota Hiace Bus registered as GUE59ZY, belonging to Iyare Motors, and a truck registered as BGT94LG.
Of the 15 individuals involved in the crash—comprising 10 male adults and 5 female adults—13 sustained injuries, while tragically, two male adults lost their lives. Okpe attributed the suspected cause of the accident to excessive speed, noting that the bus driver collided with a stationary truck parked on the road’s hard shoulder.
Following the crash, the injured victims were promptly transported to Hope Hospital in J4 for medical attention, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the General Hospital morgue in Ijebu-Ode.
The Ogun State Sector Commander, Anthony Uga, emphasized the importance of cautionary measures for motorists, particularly regarding proper parking procedures. He urged drivers to exercise caution when parking their vehicles on the highway. He stressed the necessity of displaying caution signs to alert other road users in case of breakdowns or emergencies.
The FRSC’s response underscores the ongoing efforts to promote road safety and prevent accidents on Nigeria’s highways, urging all motorists to adhere to traffic regulations and exercise vigilance while traveling.
