NUPENG Distributes Sanitizers and Safety Kits to Tanker Drivers

[post_slider]

NUPENG, Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, yesterday approached state governments and security agencies to help Petroleum Tanker Drivers, PTD, to steadily supply fuel across the nation as Nigeria battles to contain the coronavirus, COVID-19 pandemic.

President of NUPENG, Prince Williams Akporeha, spoke while flagging off the distribution of hand sanitizers and other safety kits to the 120 terminals and 300 stopovers for Tanker drivers across the country to secure them against COVID-19 pandemic.

NUPENG president announces

Akporeha announced that the union had engaged some pharmaceutical organizations to create 1000 amount of 10 liters Jerry jars of sanitizers to be delivered weekly to PTD members across the nation over the four operational zones of NUPENG in the country.

He said “We have 154 Petroleum loading depots across the country, but as we speak, we have 120 of the depots in operation. Besides that, PTD has about 300 places across the country that serve as their stopover points for resting and recreation; we will be distributing these items to all the places. Conservatively, we will be sending out about 1000 of these items every week until the siege is over.”

According to him, the distribution was in fulfillment of the union’s previous pledge to help its members at the forefront especially at the fuel loading points to safeguard them against COVID-19 disease.

Akporeha begged state government and security agents to help out the union to guarantee consistent fuel dispersion the nation over. The security agents must make sure that there are no touting and corrupt practices at the loading points and other depots.

“We once again, advise our members who have no business at the depots and other loading points to say at home.”

Other safety kits

The hand sanitizers come in 10 liters’ transparent jerry cans to use as a refill for dispensers with other safety kits, for example, hand gloves and mouth masks which the union had already distributed across to all its zonal workplaces in Port Harcourt, Kaduna, Warri, and Lagos.

Other than that, the Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) branch of NUPENG has around 300 places in the country that fill in as their Stop-Over-Point for resting, we will be distributing these things to every one of these spots as well.

Conservatively, “we will be sending out about a thousand of these items every week until the siege is over. ADCEM Pharmaceutical Company may not have the capacity to meet this demand and we are in talks with other companies to support this production”.

He, in any case, clarified that the association will give further logistics and support to its individuals as it regarded as fundamental.
