Nigeria’s Buhari Backs Africa Bank Head Despite US Demands

Opposing members from Washington are allegedly accusing Adesina Akinwumi, former Nigerian agricultural minister and head of AfDB of ethical misconduct. Buhari backs Africa bank head despite the allegations.

They intend to conduct fresh investigations on him following complaints that he was using his position to the best of his advantage. They intend to remove him from power.

The US has been pushing for external investigations after the internal inquiry pardoned Adesina. They claim sources have informed them of Adesina’s corrupt ways.

The Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari however assured Adesina he was going to stand by him until he secured his position. This was during a meeting that they conducted on Tuesday.

“The President pledged that Nigeria would work with all other leaders and stakeholders in AfDB to ensure that Dr. Adesina was elected for a second term built on the record of his achievements,” a statement said.

However, Adesina is the first Nigerian to been in charge of such a multilateral money lender.

Nigerian is the largest shareholder in AfDB and its receiving support from other African states, Europe, America, and Asia. The total shareholders are 80; 54 are African states while the rest Europe, America, and Asian.

As the first African leader of the bank, Adesina is motivated to retain his position. With help from other Nigerians together with the president he is positive about the future.

During the Tuesday meeting, Adesina assured President Buhari that the allegation on him was falsified and that he was innocent.

The Nigerians are determined to remain leaders and promise to solidly stand behind Adesina. The parties from the bank had scheduled an election in late May, however, they postponed it to August because of the corona.

Many have had perceptions of Adesina. Right from his dress code to his way of management. He has gained so much fame being in charge of such a prestigious facility. Since he dresses flamboyantly, some people mistake him to be controlling.
