Member of Parliament for Suba North Constituency Millie Odhiambo has strictly educated parents on their responsibility of taking care of their daughters. This calls for having an open sexual discussion with their daughters at home, also both physical and emotional issues that the girls go through.
Millie Odhiambo disappointed with the trends of the pregnancy rising numbers.
Millie met with a small scale salon owners and freelance hairstylists in Nairobi County in which he used the opportunity to educate parents on the high rise of teenage pregnancies in the country.
The legislator stressed not only teenage pregnancy but also the high rise in gender-based violence. Kenya has recorded a high number of gender violence during the corona period following the lockdown measures and curfew that was imposed in the country. This, to some extent, left the young girls exposed to the predators.
“There are sins that we have been committing and the Lord is not happy. It is shocking that even two-year-old girls are being defiled,’’ the MP lamented.
She emphasized that a girl is below the age of 18 years could make a sound decision about having sex. And warned the men who impregnate teenagers that they will face the law.
Parents are failing to do their job.
It is the responsibility of the parent to take care of their children, both the boys and girls. But in this case, the girls are vulnerable, and without adequate attention from the parents, they can fall in traps that will lead to pregnancies or much worse cases.
However, the Member of Parliament blamed the parents for not doing their duty. Many parents are shying away from talking about sex education about their daughters. And this is where things go wrong, and girls go out and mingle with the boys who later impregnate or rape them.
Millie Odhiambo went ahead and strictly asked the parents in the event to teach their daughters about sex. She forced the parent to sing a song that they should sing to their daughters at home.
“These are my private parts, private parts, private parts these are my private parts, no one should touch them, one should play with them, no one should look at them,”
She sung as the parents repeated after her.

Insight on teenage pregnancy in Kenya for the past five months
In the past few months, the cases of teenage pregnancy made it to the news headline as the rise of school girls scoring higher numbers. Four thousand eight hundred adolescent girls in a single county got pregnant in Kenya. While there are many other causes of this shocking news, huge blame rest on the parents for failing to educate and tame their children in the right direction. Because COVID-19 restrictions, everyone is at home at a lot of things seem to be going on. Significantly, every parent needs to sit their children and talk about peer pressure. And lack of knowledge as the top reason for the pregnancy causes.
The rising number attracted the attention of President Uhuru, who sent strictly warning to the predators that whoever will be caught will face the law. Sent a warning to the chiefs that they will be held answerable when school girls are defiled on their watch. He appeals to the parents to take responsibility and support from the religious institutions to help in addressing social problems.
