Wanja Michuki, daughter of late Kenya’s Former Transport Minister John Michuki. Has been appointed an international job to oversee an international organization’s operations in three countries.
The Ethical Tea Partnership (ETP), a London based tea lobby group, appointed Wanja to spearhead its regional strategy in Eastern Africa. In a statement, the institution said that Wanja will work in Nairobi. But will oversee the company’s operations in Kenya, Rwanda, and Malawi. She will work on spearheading new reforms that are targeted to boost the lives of small-scale tea farmers and workers in the tea sector in the three countries.
Wanja Michuki role in the Ethical Tea Partnership (ETP)
In a brand new role for ETP, as Strategy Lead, she is responsible for developing high-level, strategic relationships with businesses, governments and development partners in Africa to enable the company go further, faster in tea growing regions.
Based in Nairobi, Kenya, Wanja also travels to Malawi and Rwanda to support these regions. Her role is key to driving forward the longer-term sustainability of tea across Africa.
Wanja got the appointment after her exceptional achievements and past compliments. The institution says:
“Wanja is responsible for developing high level, strategic relationships with businesses, governments. And development partners in Africa to enable us to go further, faster in tea growing regions.
She has hands-on experience in the tea sector, having founder her own, especially tea business. Wanja also worked closely with farmers during her time as a Trade and Investment Diplomat. Working in the Kenyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade. And as part of the tea farming community in Central Kenya.”
She accepted the work promising the best of her efforts
The hardworking Kenyan lady accepted the role. She is Promising to invest her best efforts. She aims to improve the livelihood of tea workers in the three countries.
“Most immediately, I am working with the UK and Kenyan teams. And ETP’s corporate members and primary partners such as Kenya Tea Development Agency and donors. This will meet some of the needs of smallholder farmers and workers as they adjust to the lifestyle and behavioral changes demanded by coronavirus,”
she told the Daily Nation.
In the scope of her work, in the medium and long term, she will work for the institution in supporting programs and reforms in Kenya. Malawi and Rwanda to produce thriving, socially transparent. And environmentally friendly tea sectors in these countries. Every country had its own unique set of characteristics.
Wanja past Job Experience
Wanja’s past work experiences include the task of managing director of Be Bold Consulting and Advisory Limited. An independently operating financial consulting and executive coaching firm in Nairobi. During this time, getting a one on one mentorship with Wanja would cost you Ksh. 25,000 for 1 hour and 30 minutes.
She started her career in finance from 1997 to 2001. Where she worked as a corporate analyst and research manager for Barclays Bank. She later joined Merrill Lynch as a summer associate for not more than a year.
Wanja then founded her first company. The Highland Tea Company LLC, based in New York, United States. She has run the company for five years.
