Mauritius Influential Politicians That Have Contributed to the Countries Success

Mauritius is a country located at the east side of Africa is known for its beaches, lagoons, and reefs. The mountainous interior includes Black River Gorges National Park, with rain forests, waterfalls, hiking trails and wildlife like the flying fox. This beautiful country is not only famous for its demographic but also the amazing people that have influenced their country in a positive way.

Emmanuel Anquetil was a Mauritian trade unionist and the second leader of the Mauritius Labour Party. He was one of the leaders that founded the Labour party that fought for the rights of workers and labors.

Anil Bachoo is a former Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Public Infrastructure, National Development Unit, Land Transport and Shipping of Mauritius.

Sheila Bappoo is a former Minister of Social Security, National Solidarity, and Senior Citizens Welfare & Reform Institutions in Mauritius. She held the top of the Ministry of Gender Equality, Child Protection, and Family Planning from 1983 to 1995 and from 2010 to 2011. It is said she also joined the Mauritian Labor Party in the year of 2003. By holding such a high level in the office gave her the opportunity to be more of an influential person and most importantly be impactful to her people.

Rashid Beebeejaun a former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Utilities of Mauritius and he has been in office since 2008. He is mostly known as the Deputy leader of the Mauritian Labor Party since 2004 and is the first person to hold the office of Prime Minister in the Mauritius line of Succession.

Vasant Bunwaree is a former CabinetMinister of Mauritius. He was also the Minister of Education in the Cabinet of Navin Ramgoolam. It is also said that he had previously held the office of Minister of Finance from November 1996 to September 2000 and also Minister of Labour from 2005 to 2008.

Dayendranath Burrenchobay was the Governor-General of Mauritius that was the first Mauritian to hold the office.

Ajay Daby is is a barrister and the former Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Mauritius. He also joined the Mauritius Labour Party to help move their idea and vision they have for their country.

Nita Deerpalsing is the 3rd Member of Parliament elected serving for constituency No 18, Belle Rose & Quatre Bornes since 2005. She is also Deputy Chairman of Committees in Parliament and the Director of Communications of the Mauritius Labour Party as well as the Chairman of the Committee of the Economic Democratization of the Prime Minister’s office.

Maya Hanoomanjee is a Mauritian politician and former Civil Servant who was elected as speaker of the National Assembly of Mauritius in the year of December. She is the first woman to hold this constitutional office and accordingly is the 2nd ranked female in the Republic after President Ameenah Gurib. She is a former Minister of Health of Mauritius who served from 11 May 2010 until the coalition government of Mauritian Labour Party & Militant Socialist Movement broke in July 2011.

Raman Osman was the Governor-General of Mauritius from 27 December 1972 to 31 October 1977. He was knighted in 1973 and was the first non-British Mauritian governor general.

These are only a few people that have made a difference while being in politics.
