The Government Of National Accord.
The GNA is a revolutionary government in power for a particular time in Libya. The UN Security Council that supported the creation of a council in Libya stressed the plans. It recognizes GNA as the legit government in Libya.
Fayez Sarraj, the PM, leads the Tripoli-allied government that took control of the capital. Conflicts started between GNC and the LHR, whereby the LHR did not recognize GNA as the legitimate government in 2016.
Violence In Libya.
Libya has been in violence since 2011 when Muammar Gaddafi lost his life in a revolt to overthrow him. Since then, the country is in the rivalry between two administrations: GNA, led by Fayez al-Sarraj and LNA, Haftar’s self-styled movement. Besides, peace arrangements for the involved parties in the west and east did not succeed.
The violence in Libya grew and destroyed the country’s services such as hospital operations and over 200000 people become homeless. However, there have been peacemaking efforts in the country.
For example, Haftar went to meet Emmanuel Macron, the president of France, in Paris in an attempt for a truce with Sarraj the rival. Also, France supports the United Nations peace negotiations between the two.
Tripoli Government Take 3 Cities From Haftar’s Power.
Libya’s acknowledged authority says its troops have grabbed power of 3 coastal towns. This is after removing people loyal to Khalifa Haftar, the eastern military leader. Mohammed Gnunu, the spokesman of the GNA, says their forces took power in coordinating Surman and Sabratha. Sabratha is 75 km west of Tripoli while Surman is 60 km west of the capital.
Later on, they captured al-Ajaylat which is 90 km west of the capital city. Last year, the eastern commander, started a military movement to gain the power of the capital. However, the Government of the National Accord was able to stop his operations.
On Monday, the GNA posted pictures of rocket launchers, over 8 tankers, and bulletproof vehicles. They say they took from cities that were under Salafist armed forces linked to the eastern commander of LNA.
Mohammad Al-Gammoudi, a GNA leader on grounds, says the capture of Sabratha and Surman took more than 5 hours of combating. Sarraj too says his people had captured the towns but the eastern commander’s army did not remark.
Chinese Wing Loong aircraft and Russian Mi-35 helicopter.
Colonel Muhammad Qanunu, says GNA’s air protection interrupted flights owned by the rival leader in the Abu Grain region. Besides, they shut the duo Chinese Wing Loong aircraft and Russian Mi-35 helicopter.
Reports say that chaos resulted in 9 soldiers from GNA dying and over 30 people loyal to the eastern commander. Besides, Sudanese and Chadian armed forces were victims too. GNA armed forces used drones from Turkey to start a war on Haftar’s armed forces.
The chaos events stirred raids on the capital as a person gets hurt and destroyed houses too. Taher al-Gharabli, president of the military assembly in Sabratha, assures people of protection and well-being.
He further says, “I salute all the Libyan revolutionaries everywhere and Sabratha on the occasion of its freedom today. Sabratha will become a safe town in the hands of the revolt of February in the care of the GNA armed forces. What Libyans hope for is democracy and civil circulation of leadership without military command.”
