Bola Tinubu, the governing party’s presidential candidate promised to restore confidence in Nigeria if he wins Saturday’s runoff election.
Bola Tinubu seems to be the favorite to win what may be the closest election in history. In Lagos, where he was governor, he spoke at his All Progressives Congress (APC) closing rally at a stadium that was two-thirds empty.
As he toured the city as a designated successor from 1999 to 2015, several of his followers flaunted his success. As they danced to traditional drums and wore face paint.
President Muhammadu Buhari, whose government has been focused on a security crisis caused by the growth of armed groups, stood beside him.
Tinubu said, “Mr. President, I would work relentlessly for Nigeria and maintain optimism.” Our nation offers hope to the unfortunate.
Meanwhile, Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, who left the PDP for the Labor Party, are Tinubu’s key opponents.
Tinubu directed horrible traffic, collected trash, fought organized crime and planted hedges to clean up Lagos.
“He can accomplish for Nigeria what he done for Lagos,” claimed 40-year-old merchant Sheyi Ogunsanwo. “He fixes the nation.”
However, Tinubu has been called a “godfather” to other politicians who subvert democracy.
So, he may lose the support of many young Nigerians who are fed up with the inability of older politicians to handle unemployment and corruption.
