Hundreds of people were killed in a clash between two warring parties in the Sudanese capital of Khartoum, including Sudanese actress Asia Abdel-Majid.

During fighting between the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces and the Sudanese army, a shell crashed on her home in Bahri, north of the capital, killing the 80-year-old lady inside.

Either the RSF or the army may have killed Abdel-Majid, although it is unclear who fired the fatal shot.

Violence erupted in mid-April as a result of failed talks between Sudanese army commander Abdel Fattah al-Burhan RSF and RSF leader Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo over a disputed power-sharing plan. The war claimed the lives of at least 528 persons.

Despite a seven-day ceasefire that had only been in effect for a few days, eyewitness accounts of violence in Khartoum were reported on Thursday. This is despite prior ceasefires and promises of peace talks by both presidents.

Her nephew said that Abdel-Majid was buried on the grounds of the kindergarten where she had worked since transporting her to a cemetery was too dangerous.

Abdel-Majid lives next door to the kindergarten, where she was alone at the time of the bombing.

She built a kindergarten in Bahri and started teaching after retiring from her career as Sudan’s first professional theater actress.
