Jurgen Klopp Provides Update: Alexander-Arnold, Alisson, and Jota Training Again, Atalanta Participation Uncertain
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp provided an update on the status of injured trio Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alisson, and Diogo Jota ahead of their Europa League quarter-final first leg against Atalanta. While the three players have returned to training, Klopp emphasized that there is no decision yet on their availability for the upcoming match.
Alexander-Arnold has been sidelined since February due to a knee problem, which he aggravated in his return against Burnley. Klopp mentioned that both Alexander-Arnold and Jota have been training together in recent weeks and looked promising during their sessions. However, he stressed the importance of reintegrating them into the squad gradually to ensure they regain their fitness and rhythm.
Goalkeeper Alisson sustained a hamstring injury during training, leading to Caoimhin Kelleher stepping in as the second-choice keeper. Despite Kelleher’s commendable performances, Klopp highlighted the need for all players to be fit and available, especially with Liverpool competing in multiple competitions.
In addition to the injured trio, midfielder Stefan Bajcetic is also nearing a return from a hip injury that has limited his playing time this season. Klopp mentioned the possibility of giving Bajcetic some game time with the under-21s to assess his progress.
Overall, Klopp emphasized the importance of having a fully fit squad as Liverpool aims to continue their pursuit of trophies across different competitions.
