Islamic terrorists attack in Congo kills 20 people

Saturday, police reported that a group of suspected Islamists attacked a community in the eastern portion of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, murdering twenty individuals.

On Friday, an assault occurred in the suburbs of Beni, in the village of Musandaba. The army and local authorities have attributed this violence to the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF). A Ugandan group with a base in eastern Congo has pledged allegiance to the Islamic State.

Colonel Charles Omeonga, the military administrator for the Beni region. Stated, “We tallied approximately 20 fatalities in Musandaba on Friday.” He said that was the ADF.

Local activist Janvier Kasereka Kasayirio reported that 22 bodies had been transported to a nearby hospital.

The perpetrators used machetes “to prevent confrontation with the army. According to Anthony Mwalushay, a spokesman for the army in the province of North Kivu where the incident occurred.

Congo supplanted civilian authority with military administrations over a year ago in an effort to stop the carnage in the two affected regions.

This week, the United Nations peacekeeping operation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo condemned what it calls a new massacre by the ADF in the adjacent province of Ituri.
