Nigeria: MohBad – the Rapper, Singer, and Songwriter

Lagos State native Promise Oladimeji Aloba (MohBad) was born on June 8, 1996.

Nigerian rapper, singer, and songwriter. Formerly with Naira Marley’s Marlian Records World.

Mohbad released his first EP, ‘Light,’ in 2019 after signing with Marlian Records World. The eight-song EP features Davido, Naira Marley, and Lil Kesh.

Mohbad left the label on October 5, 2022, after a dispute with the owner. He claimed that singer Naira Marley had abused him and that his former boss had ordered others to harm him.

The late musician said he shared his concerns with Naira Marley about hiring a new manager for his songs and company.

Mohbad was nominated three times for The Headies Awards in 2022 for his hits “Ponmo, Feel Good” and “KPK (Ko Por Ke)” with Rexxie.

The fourth quarter of 2020 saw the release of his debut album, Light EP, following the viral success of “Ponmo,” which featured Naira Marley and Lil Kesh. MohBad received five Beatz Award nominations in 2021.

Mohbad was one of Audiomack’s top 21 2021 Afrobeat artists. His 2022 album ‘Peace’ was produced by Rexxie.

He reached the Top 50 and Top 100 Turntables rankings in 2021 and 2022.

In a viral video, Mohbad’s friend and fellow singer Bella Shmurda said the late artist’s health had deteriorated to the point he considered suicide over a record company dispute. Mohbad died on September 12, 2023, under unexplained circumstances.
