The IMF reported “good progress” on Thursday in obtaining bilateral financing assurances for Ghana, which are required for the IMF executive board to consider a three-year, $3 billion loan program for the west African country.
Following receipt of sufficient official bilateral creditor assurances, IMF spokesperson Julie Kozack stated at a press conference that the Fund is hopeful that the IMF executive board will consider the Ghana program soon.
The package was unanimously approved by the staff in December.
Strong progress has been made toward creditors delivering on these financing assurances, and we are optimistic that they can be delivered very quickly, according to Kozack.
Ghana’s finance minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, stated in a presentation last month that he expects IMF board approval for the loan in May.
