Let’s face reality. Terrorist groups are common in Africa, and here is no way to overlook the effect of these terror groups. For instance, take a look at Libya, which is currently facing inter-forces conflicts at the Tunisia border. As per reports, Libya GNA experiences a rough battle with the Khalifa Haftar loyal forces. However, the Tripoli-based administration recaptures al-Watiya airbase.
The announcement comes after a month fight against Khalifa Haftar renegade military forces. As of Monday, Mohamed Gnunu- military spokesman says that the GNA managed to secure the Tunisia border airbase. Sure, this is a bold move for the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord. It is one step to harmony, thanks to GNA forces.
Political Stability in Libya
Political firmness is a crucial aspect of the smooth running of the society. Without it, humanity is no more. Yes, there are challenges on the way to achieving political stability. In this context, Libya GNA authority sees forces allied to help drive the Haftar troops out of the western coast of Libya. Haftar forces, accused of massive killing in the West Country.
The renegade military commander, Khalifa Haftar, launched an insulting in April 2019, aiming to grab Tripoli control. Khalifa’s greed of power resulted in a stalemated conflict, killing more than one thousand Libya citizens. However, GNA succeeded in capturing al-Watiya base- located sixteen miles from the Tunisia border.
Analysts say this is a relief to the people of Libya. Besides, GNA capture of the airbase will allow its forces to focus on pushing Haftar troops in southern Tripoli. Sure, combat success will change the balance of power favoring the GNA regime.
Conversely, it is a setback for commander Haftar as this is the last stronghold for his troops in the western country. As a response, the Haftar forces launched airstrikes targeting government troops in different locations in Libya. The most hit area is the confrontation axes based in the south of Tripoli.
Hope for Peace
Despite the proactive response of the Haftar forces, there is a high bet for them to retreat. Anas El Gomati, the chief director of the Sadeg institute, says GNA capture altered Haftar military operations in western Libya. Sure, this is hope to the neighboring community. At least they see a signal to peace restoration.
Mr. Gomati also says this is a significant development as it denies Haftar the chance to continue his reign in Tripoli. Now, there is no way for Khalifa to move his troops, provide a platform or offer weapons to suppress the GNA forces. As a result, administration troops can quickly move down towards Tarhuna. The south of Tripoli (Tarhuna) is the last line of Haftar forces. From the look of things, the terror group is now retreating. Here comes peace for Libya citizens, thanks to the GNA efforts.
Libya mired chaos since 2011 after the defeat of Muammar Gaddafi by the NATO-backed rebellion. The two rival administrations took over afterward, and fighting geared up every day.
Conclusion
It is nice to see Libya citizens approaching better times. Take heart. Independence is all we need to rise to the levels we crave for every day. Africans, this is the time of awakening, let’s come together and push these terror groups away for a better tomorrow. Remember, the next generations’ way of life depends on today’s actions.
