Kenyans have gotten something to shower praises on, as their sprinter Ferdinand Omanyala breaks records. Kenya is widely known for its long-distance tracks. The nation on many occasions has carried the flag of Africa when it comes to marathons.
Ferdinand Omanyala was banned in 2017 due to drugs. But he has said that will never cast what he can do and all that he has done. He is the fastest African with a record of 9.77s in 100 m. On Saturday, he made another record at Kip Keino’s Classic ground in Nairobi, hitting 9.77s. He broke a record set by South African sprinter, Akani Simbani.
The young man was interviewed by the BBC yesterday. He said he doesn’t accept the insults of people who might make him drop out. His main focus is to run and win. Omanyala doesn’t do it to embrace people.
When we compare among the fastest people in the world, he joined the likes of Justin and Bolt in the top 10 list. He is ranked 8th after Jamaicans and USA sprinters like Yankee.
Ferdinand started his national and international athletic career in 2016 but got a doping ban of 14 months in 2017. He tested positive for a substance that was banned by the Athletic board. Furthermore, he admitted that he took the substance in a painkiller unknowingly. It brought some fear.. He felt like he was a victim of circumstance, just like other athletes. All the experience at that moment has really transformed him.
Omanyala said it has made him twice stronger than he was. It’s a very powerful challenge that can make you quit your athletic career. He really struggled to accept what he claims was not his fault. The guy lives at the moment and never looks back.
The young Kenyan was confident that he could hit a 9.70s in the next race, and that is his target. That mark has only been achieved by two Jamaicans, and Tyson Gay, a USA sprinter. Omurwa was a rugby player before shifting to athletics. He believes he can even do better than bolt because only the sky is the limit.
It has taken almost a year for the man to become popular and famous. He praised 2021 as his breakthrough year, full of blessings. In the Olympics, he performed fairly well, making it to the semi-finals. Omanyala has improved in every race he competes in.
Omurwa has promised to inspire a young future generation, and he has opened the door for aspiring candidates. In less than 5 years, he yearns to see more kids sprinting more than him. He believes in various sports like rugby and football, there are sprinters who can perform really well.
Children and young people got discouraged in the past while trying to pasue a career as sprinter athletes. But at least they can now pursue it by looking at Ferdinand Omanyala. He promised to open a sprinting club in Kenya.
We have great names like Justin Gatlin, who have praised the effort played by Ferdinand Omanyala. Gatlin believes Africa can do better than that. Apart from sprinting and long distance tracks, Africa are good at long jump, throwing javelin etc.
