Facebook Launches Coronavirus Information Centers in Africa

Facebook launches (CIC) Coronavirus Information Centers around Africa. The social media platform will expand its Coronavirus Information Center to 17 more countries. These centers will be around sub-Saharan Africa. This is part of Facebook’s effort to help the global fight against the pandemic. It provides the latest information and news from trusted health authorities to people. And also, this initiative will help people and communities stay healthy.

The COVID-19 Information Centered is shown at the top News Feed to keep people informed about the Coronavirus. It delivers real-time updates gotten from global health organizations like the World Health Organization and other national health authorities. The platform discloses information by previewing videos, articles, and posts about preventing the spread of COVID-19 and maintaining social distancing.

Effect and Location

Facebook users can sign in to view notifications and preview updates in their News Feed. Facebook has also unveiled local language support for several African languages. This initiative is a Third Party Fact Checking program. The program helps to process the accuracy of news on the platform and also to reduce the spread of misinformation.

The Coronavirus Information Center has already been launched in South Africa. It will be launched to the following African markets such as Burkina Faso, Benin, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Kenya, Chad, Mali, and more.

“We’ve developed the information centers, in partnership with global or national health partners. This will ensure that people get information from trusted sources. The unveiling of COVID-19 Information Center on Facebook is available to more than 17 countries across sub-Saharan Africa. The platform is in alignment to make accurate and timely information available to the public,” says Kojo Boakye, Facebook’s Head of Public Policy, Africa.

The coronavirus has become a global issue and it is necessary for people to become informed so as not to fall victim to it. This platform keeps people informed about happening around the world. It also helps to combat COVID-19 misinformation across the world. Also, the innovation combats exploitative tactics in ads and banning ads that don’t correspond with COVID-19 guidelines.

Facebook supports global health organizations and empowering its partners with tools to use. With this, people can request for help in their communities and keeping with the world. Also, governments and other emergency health organizations can also reach people without any issues.
