Ethiopia says Tigrayan forces beaten in Afar; Tigrayans deny

[post_slider]

Northern Ethiopia has had a 10-month conflict that is affecting the national economy. The national federal government announced the withdrawal of their rivals forces who had been beaten in the Afar region. Tigrayan forces confirmed that they had redeployed troops to the neighboring Amhara region. This is a result of offensive issues.

Dina Mufti, a foreign spokesman, reported that Tigray Peoples Liberation Front had left the Afar region. TPFL was the ruling party in Ethiopia for almost 3 consecutive decades. Yet, when it shifted to northern Ethiopia as the ruling party, the fight broke out in 2020. The party was defeated and ran away from the region.

Getachew Reda, the Tigrayan spokesman told Reuters about the new agency they had set up. It was a satellite phone in which he failed to disclose the location. He rejected the news about the defeat, they left at their own will. The Ethiopian authorities only came to realize later that the TPLF had withdrawn from the northern region. He went ahead to say there was no fight between them and Afar. They made their way to the highlands up to the Amhara region.

The government Prime Minister Mr. Biy Ahmed SPOKESMAN said that Tigrayan forces of the TPLF had been cleared in the Afar region. It was the region’s militia forces and the military who chased Tigrayan from the region. The two forces collaborated to make sure the task gets done as fast as possible. The Tigrayan forces made many losses during the process.

Billen Seyoum confirmed about the Afar militia collaboration with the national defense force. The two parties were too strong to overcome the Tigrayan forces for one week. But on Twitter, Getachew looms to dispute these claims after a few minutes. Now people are stuck who did the right thing. The Tigrayan official made sure he had announced another fight so that the Amhara leaders wouldn’t lie anymore. Was that a threat?

Since November 2020, northern Ethiopia has experienced harsh violence. His was immediately after the Nobel Peace Prize Winner, Abiy set massive troops in army camps. He feared that the TPLF would attack these camps, hence he had to coordinate and protect his people. Many people have died and almost 2 million individuals have moved out of their homes. They shift to other regions for peace. Also, thousands of Ethiopian people are experiencing drought, hence famine.

Even untouched areas have turned out to be very dangerous as the TPLF seized their members in Mekelle. The war has now moved to new regions of Afar and Amhara, meaning that there is no safe place. National government statistics show that almost 450000 individuals flee to other areas.

A high-level AU planned to host a talk between the Tigrayan leaders but Abiy rejected the call. He claims that the fight between the two parties illegal.

During Thursday’s news, Billene said he has invited any willing neighboring countries who will help settle the matter. A solution has to be found.
