Egypt’s Suez Canal authority reported on Sunday that an oil tanker that experienced engine failure had been towed away.
After tugboats successfully towed the stranded tanker, the head of the canal authority, Osama Rabie, issued a statement saying that normal traffic in both directions had resumed.
According to Refinitiv Eikon’s database of ships, the Malta-flagged crude tanker SEAVIGOUR was built in 2016.
The vessel was on its way to China from Russia according to the canal authority.
In the Suez Canal, technical problems cause frequent disruptions in traffic, albeit temporary ones.
Just over two weeks ago, tugboats were needed to move a bulk carrier that had become stuck in the canal for several hours.
