Cubans pray to Virgin of Regla for end of pandemic amid virus spike

[post_slider]

The covid-19 pandemic has harmed the rest of the world, running from economic to social instability. Immediately after the first case of the coronavirus, there was a mild lockdown. Cuban government imposed 100% lockdown and people had to adhere to the law. The places of worship also faced the same rules and the Cubans could only pray to their Virgin of Regla in the house.

The vaccine has given most people hope about the end of the pandemic. But there is fear where we hear about the evolution of the virus adapting to the vaccine being given. Does this mean we will live with the pandemic? The Cubans are among the first people who experienced the second delta of covid-19.

The citizens have decided to take the matter to their Virgin of Regla. Over the past week, most people have taken their hearts along the Bay of Havan to pray for revelation. The only hope they have is for the Virgin of Regla to alight and take away the pandemic. Most people have died because of the pandemic, but they are hopeful for their spiritual healer.

Cubans celebrated their idol while asking for help. They want to make more sacrifices for the Virgin of Regla. They believe that she is the owner of the seas, the moon, and everything that exists in the world. They have given her the blue color because they relate her to the marine symbols.

The citizens sacrificed a single full day to dedicate their time to prayers. Most of them congregated in holy places to pray together. Candles and all the rituals were done to please the Virgin of Regla. At the front of their place of worship, they have a symbol of the Virgin of Regla who reminds them how secure they are in her presence. Praying together is very awesome, and most people believe it’s the best moment to seek for forgiveness.

Covid-19 is a worldwide disaster that might end up distracting everything. Of course, by now, we are not living our normal life. Some are working from home, others have lost their jobs. The poor growth economy has left millions of unemployed people.

Cuba has experienced a 10% drop in the GDP statistics. Despite the presence of vaccines, people are still experiencing deceased cases. There is no prediction of when the pandemic will end. The remaining task is to submit our grievances to God, our maker.

According to history, on 7th September, Cubans always make sure they visit the Patron Saint in Havana. She is a symbol of the Orish Yamaya. The ritual has been there for many years. However this year, they considered it for covid-19 spiritual healing. They have experienced a harsh environment with the pandemic. And for sure, nothing seems to work now because we don’t know of tomorrow. Today you might be well, then tomorrow will be succumbed by covid-19, all of the sudden death. Thus, the Cuban Catholics urged other religions to do the same to seek forgiveness from the highest.
