Coronavirus: Why Africa Does not Need Saving During This Pandemic

When coronavirus started giving panic to the whole world, people estimated that Africa was likely to be hit hard. This is because of what Africa is globally known for; corruption. Most countries in Africa are doing much in containing the disease and that is why Africa does not need saving during coronavirus pandemic.

The world was questioning whether Africa will survive the attack with its small economy and high level of corruption. It turns out that Africa records the slowest spread of the infection. Nonetheless, two French doctors proclaimed that Africa would the most appropriate location for coronavirus vaccine tests. This news was all over the globe although Africa has the smallest number of civic-19 cases.

People have made assumptions about blacks and non-whites including the inability to easily survive in times of crisis. Coronavirus, however, has presented a different case concerning Africans and how they are containing the disease. Africans have presented a different picture to the globe because they reacted quite early by outing measures to stop the spread of the disease.

African struggle

African countries such Zimbabwe has proved that they are more than black people needing saving in times of crisis. In this country, university students are doing all they can to contain the global pandemic. Their efforts are shown in manufacturing masks, gloves and hand-sanitizers for use. Zimbabwe is currently facing serious economic struggles including hyperinflation. But this doesn’t stop them from battling what is giving the while globe panic. Because of this, their efforts are globally appreciated.

The struggle doesn’t stop. In Kenya, a factory now produces over 30, 000 masks to cater for the nations’ daily demand. South Africa is also trying her best to combating COVID-19. Her efforts are shown especially in conducting local-based testing for the infection. They are also on the way of trying out a vaccine for coronavirus in the country. Besides, South Africa is known for intensive research on HIV and other communicable diseases.

Most African countries are on their 3rd week of total lockdown despite recording the lowest number of coronavirus cases. Because of this, African governments are praised for the efforts they have put in containing the disease. Some of the leaders have donated their salaries to help in fighting the disease. What Africans have done so far is a good example that whites need to emulate.

Some leaders use brutality against their citizens in response to the rising COVID-19 cases in most African counties. Even though this couldn’t be the right way of dealing with the situation, the fact that some generous leaders donate their salaries to keep their countries safe is remarkable. It shows the generosity and humility in the great African continent.

Conclusion

Africa is making a great move towards containing coronavirus disease. Even though the African economy is facing struggles right now, much has been done by the leaders. The fact that measures to help contain the pandemic was put early enough has helped Africa a great deal. This has been the reason why Africa does not need saving during coronavirus pandemic.
