Children’s internet activity increases during the lockdown, as more children have become active with the use of the internet. It also shows that more children will become active as the lockdown progresses. Activities in the first week of January and the last week of March were compared. And the number was twice more than the previous years. This report was disclosed recently by the Kaspersky Safe Kids parental control module.
Children’s online activity is becoming more important than social gatherings during the pandemic. It is crucial to assist a child in navigating through information surrounding them on the internet. This is also to make sure they get a positive experience from surfing. Sometimes learning becomes difficult for kids as they are prone to focus more on entertainment than study. So, it is important to control children’s activities online as not to accommodate changes that may occur due to an increase in online activities.
About the report
In the report, the most apparent trend was the increase in music in video consumption. The rate at which children are actively using the internet to surf for software, video and audio increased by 15%. This was accompanied by an increase in children’s interest in news resources but is seen lower than the appetite for entertainment. There was also a decrease in children’s interest in video games, online shops, and e-commerce websites.
“Our report shows that all over the world children have become more active on the internet since the beginning of the COVID-19. We tell parents not to be worried, according to our statistics. A wide majority of children are more interested in watching videos, listening to music, and socializing online. It also shows that children aren’t interested in viewing potentially unwanted content and disturbing news.”
“What’s more, their online activity is equal to the adults’ interests during the lockdown. This includes news, video content, and socializing through video conferencing. This might be an opportunity for children and adults to get along, rather than worry,” comments from Head of Child Safety at Kaspersky Network, Andrey Sidenko.
Safety of the children
The Global Partnership to End Violence also released a report about the millions of children at risk if their online activities are not been monitored.
“The pandemic has led to a rise in online time,”
“Strict containment measures and School closures will bring-in more and more users on technology and digital solutions. This is to keep families and children entertained and connected to the outside world. But not all children have the required skills, knowledge, and resources to stay safe online.” Said Executive Director to Global Partnership to End Violence, Dr. Howard Taylor.
