CAR’s Ex-President Leads Rebel Group Fighting the Government

The new rebel leader in the Central African Republic is François Bozizé. The Coalition of Patriots for Change, led by the former president, Bozize, has formally taken over the reins.

On Saturday, CPC spokesman Serge Bozanga said the former head of state had agreed to the “call” of the CPC’s six armed groups, which “asked him to take the lead” of the coalition as general coordinator.

The CPC was formed in December 2020, in the run-up to the presidential election, and brings together six of the most powerful rebel groups in the Central African Republic, which control two-thirds of the country.

Its goal is to march towards Bangui, the capital, to overthrow President Faustin Archange Touadéra’s government.

In the face of UN troops and Russian elements, his various efforts have failed. Bozizé has formalized ties with the Coalition of Patriots for Change since his presidential candidacy was declared invalid on December 27, 2020.

As a result, Francois Bozizé has stepped down as leader of his political party, the Kwa NA kwa, to focus on the rebellion. Tensions have possibly surged since Bozize left his party. There is fear that the country’s situation may worsen, considering Bozize is a sworn enemy of CAR’s current president.

Peaceful organizations have occasionally called on the conflicting parties in CAR to resolve their difference peacefully in the interest of the Central African Republic people, who have suffered irreversible damage from the endless violence. A truce between the rival parties could significantly contribute to the stability and growth of the country.
