By 2026, South Africa will add 5,500 MW of renewable energy. On Tuesday, electricity minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa said South Africa expects about 5,500 megawatts (MW) of additional renewable energy projects by 2026.

HE NOTED THAT 66,000 MW of wind and solar projects were under development nationwide.

Due to frequent malfunctions at state company Eskom’s coal power stations, South Africa’s biggest electrical crisis has resulted in scheduled power interruptions for hours daily.

However, some analysts are optimistic that the government will reduce power shortages, helping the rand recover from a June 1 record low.
