The British government confirmed on Sunday that another evacuation flight would depart from Port Sudan in eastern Sudan on Monday, increasing the total number of people evacuated from Sudan to 2,122.

The government has announced that it would no longer provide evacuation flights from Wadi Saeedna airfield near Khartoum due to a reduction in demand from British nationals and ongoing insecurity on the ground.

We will continue our rescue efforts from Port Sudan. Foreign Minister James Cleverly underlined the government’s commitment to a durable cease-fire, a peaceful transfer to civilian leadership, and the cessation of violence in Sudan.

Since the April 15 clash between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), numerous Western countries have been hurrying to remove their citizens from the country.

The British government said on Sunday that the final evacuation plane from Wadi Saeedna airport had departed on Saturday evening, increasing the total number of trapped Britons in Sudan to an estimated 4,000.

According to the statement, the “exceptional” supplementary flight from Port Sudan was designed to assist with the evacuation of the tiny number of British citizens who remained in Sudan.
