According to Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, the body of Christian Atsu arrived in Accra on Sunday evening from Turkey (MFA).

Christian Atsu was killed in an earthquake in Turkey not too long ago. He used to play football for the Black Stars. The MFA tweeted that his family, government officials, and the Football Association of Ghana received his body. The ceremony took place on Sunday, February 19, 2023, at the Kotoka International airport.

He added that his family and the Ghanaian Ambassador to Turkey, H.E. Francisca, took his body on a Turkish Airlines plane.

“Atsu played for the Black Stars and was highly popular and would be sorely missed,” added Bawumia.
I extend my condolences Ghana Supporters Union and all for the loss. “It’s painful,” Bawumia said.

After a 7.8 magnitude earthquake shook Turkey and Syria on February 6, Atsu went missing.

Atsu played for Everton, Newcastle, and Hatayspor in the Turkish Süper Lig. The winger played for Ghana at the 2014 World Cup and 2015 Africa Cup of Nations final.
