The novel coronavirus is a wave of infection that has tremendously affected states across the globe. It has promoted economic crisis, food insecurity, and even fear amongst individuals. As of now, many countries are trying to recover from the deteriorating conditions as global cases surge past 25 million.
However, there is no vaccine nor cure for the virus, hence it is still infecting individuals. Total death and infections rates continue to rise in countries daily. Meanwhile, governments have employed restriction measures to control infections. Some of these include wearing masks, social distancing, self-isolation, curfews, sanitizing, etc.
Data from Johns Hopkins University reveals that as of now, 25,009,793 people across the globe have tested positive for the virus. Out of these cases, India has reported the highest number of infections in a single day. The total recoveries are 16,411,400.
The World Health Organization data states that the total COVID-19 cases are five times higher than the number of severe influenza cases they record yearly. Since COVID-19 testing is ongoing, health officials caution that the cases can be higher than the real number.
Global Cases
Although corona has affected all countries worldwide, the top ten most affected countries include America, Brazil, India, Russia, Peru, South Africa, Colombia, Mexico, Spain, and Chile. Amongst all these countries, the United States recorded 5,961,582 which is the greatest number of cases.
According to the latest reports, the ministry of health in India stated they had confirmed a total of 78,7621 within 24 hours. This alarming increase is because the government of India minimized its restrictions to salvage its sinking economy. Since India is a populous country, the restriction-free weekend greatly contributed to the spread of the virus.
Originally the virus came from China before it spread to other parts of the globe. Countries like South Korea and New Zealand came up with quick containment measures to control the virus. However, they are now dealing with a new wave of infections.
Meanwhile, Latin America, specifically in Brazil, records 3,843,153 that is the second-highest number of infections. While battling with its first wave of infections, it has recorded over 120000 cases.
General analysis reveals the virus has spread to over 188 states and regions. China, the first country to report the virus has confirmed a total of 89863 infections and 4721 deaths.
What’s behind the rise in COVID-19 cases
It is nearly nine months since coronavirus emerged from the Chinese city of Wuhan. The virus appears to be spreading rapidly, with some countries reporting the highest daily infection rates. Residents living in poor rural areas are more susceptible to the virus because of poor containment measures. For instance, India reported an overwhelming increase in daily cases.
Countries laying off the Draconian measures to restore their economies are also contributing to the daily increase in infections. Some people are no longer wearing masks or sanitizing. Hence, through the relaxation of these measures, the virus is spreading.
Soon countries will embark on stringent measures as the cases seem to increase daily.
